Let’s Fight Hunger Together in Chicago

Nancy Rotering, currently in her second term as mayor of Highland Park, states, “Food insecurity is something that most of us don’t think about every day, but it quietly affects people of all ages across the nation. The Northern Illinois Food Bank reports that nearly 600,000 people each year in northern Illinois rely on food pantries and meal programs to feed themselves and their families. Most are families with at least one working member of the household. Each day, their families have to make the tough choice between paying for food or rent, medicine and other essentials.”

Rotering, who is running for Congress in the 10th district, is coordinating an ongoing food drive to assist food pantries in addressing this pressing need. She is accepting non-perishable, non-expired food donations from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays at her campaign headquarters, located at 1910 First Street, Suite 2N, in Highland Park. Campaign staff and community volunteers will transport the food to district pantries.

“As a mother, I am concerned about any child going hungry. As a mayor, I have seen many of my residents struggle with food insecurity and have championed the issue, partnering with area organizations to take action to feed our hungry neighbors,” says Rotering. “This ongoing food drive will expand upon that effort.”
