New Children’s Book Focuses on Creativity

Lynda Hope Dresher

Author Lynda Hope Dresher, also known as Lynda Hope, created the concept for her Creativity series more than 35 years ago. Now, children 4 to 8 years old and their parents can recognize and explore their own creative potential in the new 32-page picture book, Jackie and Creativity Go to School.

Creativity is colorfully personified, along with Courage, Happy, Joy, Hope, Fear, Hate, Anxiety, Gloom and Despair. Dresher says, “It took years to research these personality traits, illustrate, compose the music and develop the story. The message is just as important today as it was back then.” As a cantor, chaplain and grief recovery specialist, Dresher knows the importance of getting in touch with emotions and allowing them to be heard and felt.

In the book, 6-year-old Jackie loves Creativity until the first day of school—then come the rules! Parents and teachers need to encourage children to love and nurture their creative spark, the essence of their being, and to recognize their positive and negative emotions that can either help or diminish their creativity process.
