Explore the Des Plaines River While Cleaning It Up

With support from REI, local organizations Openlands and Illinois Water TrailKeepers are hosting a Des Plaines River Cleanup paddling event from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., August 19, at the Forest Preserves of Cook County’s Dam 1 Woods East. Participants may bring their own boat or use one provided by the Forest Preserves of Cook County. All participants must be at least five years old to canoe. No experience is necessary and lunch is provided.

        Participants will meet at the Dam 1 Woods East picnic shelter, in Wheeling. The entrance is on the south side of Dundee Road, between Milwaukee Avenue and the Tri-State Tollway.

The event is free, but participants must register in advance by emailing their name, the number of people and whether they need a boat to [email protected].
