Take a Natural Approach to Health

The Institute for Integrative Health and Wellness (IIHW) welcomes naturopathic doctor Lisa Marie Leonard, N.D., to its staff.

IIHW, located in the Jefferson Park neighborhood, offers integrative and functional medicine, focusing on digestive conditions, low-back pain, weight-loss issues, sinus conditions, migraines and other chronic conditions

Leonard, who earned a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine degree from National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois, applies the defining principles of naturopathic medicine to optimize patients’ health. As the word “doctor” comes from the Latin “docere,” or “to teach,” she also aims to educate patients so they can help themselves heal.

Leonard practices naturopathic medicine, a holistic practice that focuses on natural tactics in health care. Whether patients seek awareness of genetic predispositions or ways to create a wholesome lifestyle, naturopathic physicians believe it is imperative to give the body what it needs to be healthy in the first place. Naturopathic doctors are knowledgeable in vitamin and mineral supplementation, herbal remedies, homeopathic remedies, physical therapy, hydrotherapy and nutrition. Strong emphasis is placed on diet, lifestyle and exercise.

Leonard’s basic philosophy includes helping patients discover the root causes of their symptoms and addressing the person as a whole—body, mind and spirit—in order to help the body heal itself.
