Food Justice Conference Examines Food Delivery System

Globally, the idea of food justice comprises complex moral and ethical issues. A Food Justice conference, sponsored by the University of Illinois at Chicago Institute for the Humanities and scheduled for April 5 and 6, in Chicago, will bring together an interdisciplinary group of scholars to explore issues of food justice in a historical context, as well as in terms of contemporary policy debates.

Keynote speaker Eric Schlosser, author of Fast Food Nation, will give a public address the evening of April 4 at no charge. Schlosser is an investigative journalist who often explores subjects ignored by mainstream media.

Food Justice conference sessions will address themes of food and war, food aid and humanitarianism, moral and ethical issues in defining hunger and famine and the tensions between local and global food systems and alternative urban food movements (specifically, in Chicago). It is a working conference that is open to the public, but advance registration is required.
