Tundra Challenge Winter Adventure

Thrill seekers and fitness fanatics are sure to enjoy the Tundra Challenge, a new way to blitz winter boredom, coming to the Chicago/Milwaukee area beginning at 9 a.m., January 14, at the Mt. Olympia Resort, in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.

This inaugural event will begin with a 205-foot climb and a 50-foot “suicide slide,” as participants crawl, balance and weave through Polar Pass, Frozen Fairbanks and Whirlwind Whiteout obstacles. Flights of 200 runners will depart every 30 minutes until 3 p.m. At the finish line, awards are given for best costume and fastest mph slide in men’s, women’s and veteran’s (45-plus) age groups. Those who finish in the top 10 percent will be granted free entry to the 2012-2013 Nation’s Top Challenger. Following the completion of the course, participants can celebrate at the after party with music, food and drinks in a snow lodge ambiance.

Registration fees are $65 for individuals and $220 for groups of four; rates will increase as the date nears. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Spectators receive free admission to cheer for their favorite participant while enjoying concessions from various vendors. Tundra Challenge is a 3.5-mile cold-weather endurance challenge. The series takes place in six metropolitan areas throughout the U.S. (Chicago/Milwaukee, Detroit, Philadelphia, Denver, New York City and Minneapolis). With more than 15 intense obstacles, the challenge is open to everyone 18 and older.
