Participate in Highland Park’s MLK Day of Service

The fifth annual Martin Luther King Day of Service will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., January 20, at the Recreation Center of Highland Park. Purposeful service projects and entertainment will engage all ages and Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White will recount his experiences as a student of King.

The Jesse White Tumbling Team will demonstrate their athletic skills. The Freedom Express Museum, a 45-foot traveling exhibit, will offer attendees an opportunity to explore First Amendment freedoms of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition. Highland Park’s Lynn Epps will also perform a portrait of King.

Service projects include assembling toiletries for PADS, sorting food for the Moraine Township Food Bank, creating Valentine messages for Operation Support Our Troops, decorating and filling book bags for distribution at North Shore Health Clinic and more.
