Wild Things Conference Returns to Chicago

The seventh biennial Wild Things Conference brings together activists, citizen scientists, researchers, nature enthusiasts and volunteers from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., February 18, at the University of Illinois at Chicago Forum for an inspiring day of presentations, workshops and networking.

Kim Wasserman, executive director of the Little Village Environmental Justice Organization (LVEJO) and Jerome McDonnell, host of the WBEZ program Worldview, will provide the keynote address: Closing of the Cloud Factory: How Little Village Fought and Won for the Environment.

Highlights include Mary Hennen, from the Field Museum, who’ll describe the recovery of peregrine falcons living in an urban environment; Jack Shouba, from the Morton Arboretum, demonstrating how to identify trees; and Terry Miesle, from the Native Bee Awareness Initiative and Fermilab, who’ll discuss how pollinators have fared over the 10 years since monitoring began.

More than 100 presentations and workshops address local wilderness, birds, wildflowers, butterflies, ecological restoration and more; from ways to help conserve wildlife, wildflowers, birds and salamanders to sharing best practices.
