Simple Fix for a Complex Dental Problem

Myobrace, made by Myofunctional Research Co., in Australia, is an appliance designed to fix the root cause of crooked teeth. While the Myobrace is most effective when used on young children, the system is also effective for adults.

Most people think that crooked, overcrowded teeth are simply the result of bad genes, but the truth is that they are the product of our own behavior. As we grow, bad oral (myofunctional) habits such as mouth breathing, thumb sucking and incorrect swallowing are all subtle forces that lead to the overcrowding and misalignment of teeth over time, which then paves the way for cavities and gum disease later.

Braces, the most commonly used fix, only take care of the surface problem. While they forcibly straighten and space the teeth, they cannot address the underlying cause of crooked teeth. Without treating the cause, teeth may shift again after treatment, so retainers after braces are mandatory. If kids stop wearing their retainers, slowly but surely their crooked smile will come back once more.

With the Myobrace, kids or adults do exercises for one hour every day, plus they sleep with it. This changes their myofunctional habits by retraining muscles and bones to support healthy tooth alignment so that the teeth develop straight, which no other device does. The treatment is less expensive and takes less time than braces, and does not require the use of a retainer afterward.
