Rogers Park Fundraiser to Benefit Autism Program

Access Bars facilitator Zulma Verdejo and her daughter Siris Rivas, a Speech-Language Pathologist who works with children with autism and their families, will raise funds which go to the nonprofit Steppin’ 4 Autism in Milwaukee. Funds will help to give children with autism iPads to work on communication, behavior, social and academic skills using special apps. Access Bars facilitators will donate their time by conducting 20-minute sessions for a minimum of $20 ($50 value) in the Rogers Park area from 2 to 6 p.m., March 7.

Both Verdejo and Rivas have been working with the Access Bars tools of Gary Douglas and Dr. Dain Heer to give back to the community in infinite ways. Verdejo is a retired Spanish bilingual teacher and massage therapist. She is also the mother of two special needs adults and the aunt of a nephew with autism, so she can relate to the challenges and blessings of any parent raising a child with special needs.
