Toward the Expansion of Fair Trade

A Magnificent Mile of Fair Trade, the largest World Fair Trade Day event in the U.S., hosted by Chicago Fair Trade, the largest grassroots fair trade coalition in the country, will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 11. Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago will serve as the hub, and the event will continue along Michigan Avenue to the 2nd Floor of the 900 North Michigan Shops. Chicago Fair Trade Executive Director Katherine Bissell Cordova notes the event celebrates the achievements of Chicagoans in ethical and sustainable business practices.

Events include a guerrilla fair trade fashion show along Michigan Avenue, fair trade pop-ups, workshops, panel discussions, fair trade food and coffee giveaways and a live radio broadcast with Jerome McDonnell of WBEZ.

The fashion show will be joined by students from Whitney M. Young Magnet School, supporting fair trade and ethical fashion. The pop-up markets include 40 locally owned fair trade businesses.

Admission is free. Church location: 126 E. Chestnut St. For more information, visit ChicagoFairTrade.org. Potential volunteers can email [email protected].
