Food Day Celebrations and Events

National Food Day, October 24, is both a celebration of real food and a campaign for inspiring community action to solve food-related problems in our homes, farms, schools and communities across the country.

Last year, Chicago’s Uncommon Ground restaurants raised enough funds from their Food Animal Concerns Trust (FACT) Fund-A-Farmer project to award grants to nine local farmers for projects to improve animal welfare on their farms. Uncommon Ground will offer locally sourced food, live music and the opportunity to meet one of its funded farmers October 24, at their 1401 West Devon Avenue location.

Northwestern University’s Norris University Center, in Evanston, will offer locally sourced and sustainable lunches. For more information, visit NUCuisine.com. Students will also participate in food events in dormitory cafeterias.

Individuals are encouraged to be active and help to organize an event or lead a new initiative. The goal is to use Food Day to celebrate what our food system does right, advocate for change and to use the day to highlight the positive work happening in the community.
