Mar 26, 2012 12:09PM

The fourth annual Green Metropolis Fair, presented by the Green Parent’s Network, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., April 14, at Chicago’s Green Exchange building, will bring the local conscious community together to celebrate Earth Month.

The fair teaches about sustainability and health in the Chicagoland area, offering free yoga classes, a barnyard experience for kids, more than 15 panel discussions and presentations, a food market with local restaurants and chefs, and 75 local businesses. Community supported agriculture (CSA) groups, nutritionists, chiropractors, yoga and children’s activities will be on hand, along with fair trade offerings and local food and drink.

Workshops and activities are scheduled on a wide array of gardening topics, including urban organic gardening, composting, keeping backyard chickens and bees, and growing and preserving fruits and vegetables. Master gardeners and master composters from the University of Illinois Extension Service will be present to answer gardening questions. The new LEED-certified Green Exchange building incorporates an organic sky garden, a cistern for recapturing and recycling rain water, and a green roof.

Location: 2545 W. Diversey, Chicago. The fair is free and open to the public, with local parking and free bike check. For more information, visit  GreenMetropolisFair.com.
