Scoliosis and Yoga Workshop with Maureen Janson

Maureen Janson

Movement specialist Maureen Janson, a professional dancer, choreographer and teacher for more than 30 years, will lead a workshop on stretching, strengthening and yoga designed specifically for those who have scoliosis, from 1 to 4 p.m., February 9, at Heaven Meets Earth Yoga, in Evanston. Janson has taught and practiced yoga for the past 20 years and is a certified yoga for scoliosis trainer.

Individuals with mild to moderate scoliosis will explore stretches, strengtheners and yoga poses adapted specifically for spinal curvature and learn to move with more ease and comfort. No prior yoga experience is necessary. A limited number of participants will be accepted into this workshop to assure personal attention. Those with X-rays should bring them.

Diagnosed with scoliosis at age 16, Janson received a prestigious Horne Henry grant from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in support of her scoliosis movement research. Her work is strongly influenced by extensive studies with San Francisco-based Elise Browning Miller (YogaForScoliosis.com). Janson teaches privately and offers popular group workshops throughout the Midwest.

Cost is $85/$75 before Feb. 1 (registration required). Location: 2746 Central St. For more information, call 847-475-1500 or visit HeavenMeetsEarthYoga.com. Contact [email protected] or visit MaureenJanson.com.
