2013 Evanston Green Living Festival Highlights Our Urban Forest

The 2013 Evanston Green Living Festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., September 28, at the Evanston Ecology Center, in Evanston. Green exhibitors, fun activities for adults and children and a healthy selection of food and drinks accompany a special emphasis on our city trees and forest plant life. This year’s theme is Preserving and Protecting the Urban Forest.

In the Green Market, visit with more than 80 green businesses and organizations. The NU Tiny House, a 128-square-foot, totally sustainable house built by students from Northwestern University, is being installed as a permanent educational exhibit at the Ecology Center.

Presentations offer alternative energy displays, including the latest in sustainable energy options; alternative transportation demonstrations of hybrids and all-electric cars; and a green silent auction. Fun activities will keep kids and parents entertained.

Other amenities include bicycle rickshaw rides, delicious food and refreshments provided by the Hummingbird Kitchen, shuttles from public transportation and secure bike parking.
