Chicago Residents Can Recycle Christmas Trees Starting January 4

The annual Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation and Chicago Park District Christmas tree recycling program will be in operation from January 4 to 18. Live Christmas trees may be dropped off at 23 park district locations citywide. Be sure to remove all ornaments, lights, tinsel and stands before dropping off the tree. Last year, Chicagoans kept more than 16,800 trees out of landfills.

Forestry crews will chip the trees into free mulch for residents. Limited amounts of the mulch will be available at each location for pickup beginning January 10.

Locations for Christmas tree recycling are listed online at ChicagoRecycles.org.
