Annual Green Living Festival to be Held in Evanston

The family-friendly Green Living Festival is a fun and educational event designed to help local residents lower their personal carbon footprint. The 2014 theme of the Evanston festival, to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., September 27, at the Evanston Ecology Center, is Healthy Citizens‑Healthy Environment. It will showcase the Evanston Livability Plan and highlight how attendees can help achieve the plan’s goal of a 20 percent reduction in Evanston greenhouse gas emissions by 2016.

Alternative energy displays will include the latest in sustainable options and demonstrations of hybrids, all-electric cars and other forms of transportation to illustrate how they can be used to reduce our carbon footprint.

A Green Market covers 4,000 square feet of covered outdoor space, featuring more than 80 environmental exhibitors, activities for kids, live music, free bicycle rickshaw rides and delicious food and drinks served by the Hummingbird Kitchen food truck. Inside, guests can attend workshops and bid on great silent auction items.
