Going Green Matters Fair at Michigan Shores Club

The 10th annual Going Green Matters Community Fair, to be held from noon to 5 p.m., March 13, at the Michigan Shores Club, in Wilmette, will focus on Sustainable Suburbs.  The event will be sponsored by Go Green Wilmette and the village of Wilmette.

What makes a suburb sustainable? A model sustainable home will set the stage for exhibits and discussion about Planning Resilient Communities at this family-friendly fair with interactive exhibits. Find out about locally sourced food, active transportation, the latest green cars, new bicycles and new places to ride them. Discover local nature preserves and bring questions about home energy savings, green initiatives in the community and green personal care and cleaning products.

Relax in the Go Green Café. Ride the Energy Bike to calculate the amount of electricity saved using LED bulbs. Buy native plants; learn about pollinators and much more. Electronics, batteries, bicycles, pens and markers, Styrofoam, textiles and vases will be accepted for recycling. A limited quantity of LED bulbs will be given away and for each LED bulb given out at the Fair, one LED bulb will be given to a low-income Chicagoland household.

Admission is free. Location: 911 Michigan Ave., Wilmette. For more information, visit GoingGreenMatters.org
