Farm Sanctuary Walk and Fun Run to Benefit Farm Animals

Gene Baur

The 2016 Walk for Farm Animals and Fun Run will take place at Grove 13, near Belmont Harbor, on October 1 to raise funds and awareness for the national nonprofit Farm Sanctuary, which works to protect farm animals from cruelty and change the way society views and treats these emotionally complex animals through rescue, education and advocacy. Anyone can participate with friends, family and neighbors for a two-mile walk or run along Chicago’s lakefront.

Registration runs from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m., followed by an opening ceremony at 8:45 a.m., featuring Farm Sanctuary president and co-founder Gene Baur, author of two national bestselling books: Farm Sanctuary: Changing Hearts and Minds about Animals and Food and Living the Farm Sanctuary Life: The Ultimate Guide to Eating Mindfully, Living Longer, and Feeling Better Every Day, followed by the Walk and Fun Run. Chicago VeganMania commences at 10 a.m. for a daylong celebration of compassionate living.

Currently celebrating its 30th anniversary, Farm Sanctuary boasts more than half a million members and supporters nationwide.
