Event to Investigate the Impact of Factory Farming in Illinois

Nonprofit Crate Free Illinois will host an event at noon, August 25, at Nana’s Organic, to call attention to the growing impact of Illinois’ concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) on animal welfare and the environment, and showcase their recent petition to the Maschhoffs—the state’s largest factory farmer—to eliminate its use of gestation crates. The group will also discuss the formation of the Illinois Agricultural Advisory Council by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

There will also be a panel discussion on factory farming with Scott Beckstead, rural outreach director for the HSUS, and other local animal welfare and environmental activists. Attendees are invited to stay at the restaurant for an optional lunch, which is not included.

Admission is free. Location: 3267 S. Halsted St., Chicago. For more information, email [email protected] or visit CrateFreeIL.org. RSVP to [email protected].
