As we begin to make plans for the new year, lets make a positive outlook a priority. Statistics show the average person has approximately 70,000 thoughts per day, and about 80 percent are thought to be negative. That can be destructive to our mood and our health. However, we can choose to willfully change our thoughts into happier and more positive ones.
Focus on being grateful: Stay focused on what we do have and not what we are missing.
Change our posture: When we may be feeling sad or discouraged, stand up extra straight and smile.
Be mindful and reflective: Set aside time each day to create stillness and find a mindful state and reflect on our thoughts and emotions.
Surround ourselves with positive energy: Spend time with those that lift us up, keep us grounded and inspire us.
Pay it forward: Focus efforts on doing good for others.
Let go of negative self-talk: When we talk to ourselves negatively, follow up with a positive comment to create the habit of positive self-talk.
