McHenry County Farm Stroll

The McHenry County Farm Bureau and the University of Illinois Extension McHenry County Master Gardeners will host the fifth annual Farm Stroll, a self-guided tour of 12 family-owned farms from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., September 29. The stroll will showcase locally grown organic and conventional fruits, vegetables, plants and animals.

There’s no beginning or end of the tour; visitors may choose the farms that interest them. Extension Master Gardener and 4-H volunteers will be available to assist farm families in accommodating guests and conducting demonstrations and tours. Most farms will be selling food, produce or other farm-related products for cash only.

Stroll participants include Hidden Marsh Farm, Von Bergen’s Country Market and Hephzibah Farms, in Hebron; Terra Vitae Farms, Hillbunker Farms and Dykstra’s Farm, in Woodstock; Main Stay Therapeutic Farm, and Patyk’s Farm Market and Greenhouse, in Richmond; Cody’s Farm and Orchard, in Marengo; Midwest Organics Recycling, in McHenry; Knotty Pine Farm, in Wonder Lake; and Highfield Farm Creamery, in Walworth, Wisconsin.

At these working farms, guests should dress appropriately and supervise children at all times. No pets, please. A few farms will have toilet facilities, but several do not.

Admission is free. For more information, call 815-338-1520 or visit McHenrycfb.org.
