Adventures in Composting Open House and Picnic

Go Green Highland Park (GGHP) and Bluegrass Restaurant will kick off International Compost Awareness Week at a free, all-ages, open house and picnic from 1 to 3 p.m., May 7, at 1636 Old Deerfield Road with complimentary light bites and beverages while learning about composting in the backyard. They also will be sharing tips about curbside composting at Bluegrass. Get started at home with a free countertop food scrap bin after signing a composting pledge. There will be a separate, free Compost Giveaway from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., May 7, at The Preserve of HP, located at 1207 Park Avenue West. Complete the food scrap-compost circle with GGHP and take home up to 20 gallons of free compost to feed plants. BYO buckets. Meet representatives from the Deerfield Plant Club from 10 a.m. to noon.
