Gather up your saved seed and bring your houseplant babies to exchange for new and unusual varieties at this free, fun-filled, family-friendly annual event to be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 2 at the Indian Prairie Public Library (IPPL), in Darien. Whether you’re a seasoned green thumb or just starting your plant journey, this will be a great opportunity to meet fellow plant lovers, share gardening tips and expand your plant collection.

“This event seems to grow each year. We enjoy spreading spring fever; encouraging garden chatter; and sharing garden wisdom, seeds and houseplants with the community. The houseplant exchange was added to the mix in the last few years and has proved to be quite popular,” notes Cathy Streett, Darien Garden Club (DGC) community service and outreach chair.

“The seed is organized by type and we do our best to encourage green thumbs,” Streett continues. “The seed exchange extras are added to the library’s seed library and folks are encouraged to bring their extras along to help supply other local gardeners in this way.”

DGC members will be on hand to offer their expertise on seed starting and describe how to harvest them at the end of the season. They will also explain the ins and outs of houseplant propagation.

Location: 401 Plainfield Rd., Darien. For more information or to register (not required), visit Eventbrite.com/e/ippldgc-seed-houseplant-exchange-tickets-789640194077?aff=oddtdtcreator.
