Woodworkers and fabricators can purchase rare, high-quality wood slabs at The Morton Arboretum’s Wood Slab Sale on June 21 in Lisle. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offers slabs salvaged from a variety of deciduous and coniferous tree species. Turning salvaged wood into long-lasting furniture is an effective way to sequester carbon.

The sale includes hundreds of slabs in a wide range of colors and grain patterns, ideal for furniture and fine woodworking projects. A limited number feature blue stain, spalting, burls or highly figured grain for one-of-a-kind pieces. Tree cookies, turning blocks, burls and stumps will also be available, priced from $10 to $30.

All slabs are sold first come, first served. Tickets must be purchased online in advance for a timed-entry slot. The ticket price applies toward any purchase and includes general admission. Arboretum members receive a 10 percent discount on all purchases.

Ticket and wood slab sale purchases help support the arboretum’s vision of a greener, healthier, more beautiful world where people and trees thrive together.

Cost: $50. Location: 4100 Illinois Rte. 53, Lisle. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit Mortonarb.org/explore/activities/events/wood-slab-sale.
