GreenTown Brings Sustainability Planning to North Shore

An event designed to create healthy, sustainable communities, GreenTown: The Future of Community, will arrive at Chicago’s North Shore on October 18 and 19, at The Art Center, in Highland Park. Hundreds of attendees are expected from the public and private sector, including mayors and other elected officials, city managers, public works directors, park district directors, planners, developers, builders, architects, landscape architects and engineers and school leaders. Everyone from the community is welcome and highly encouraged to attend.

Sessions and discussions will cover green economy, sustainability planning and implementation, local food sourcing and production, healthy living in Chicagoland communities, clean water, complete streets, green infrastructure and energy planning. The agenda will be posted on the website and interested organizations are invited to take part.

Co-produced by a5 and Seven Generations Ahead and sponsored in part by Natural Awakenings magazine, GreenTown is a catalyst for sustainability around the Midwest, bringing together government, the business community and higher education to identify the steps we all can take together to create healthier, more prosperous communities.

Since 2007, GreenTown events have been held in cities all over Illinois, Michigan and Indiana, featuring speakers such as Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. In addition to connecting the dots between government and the private sector, GreenTown fosters community sustainability planning and implementation.
