Martin Luther King Day of Service

Everyone is welcome to join in Highland Park events scheduled for January 21 to celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., including the fourth annual MLK Day of Service, sponsored by the North Shore School District 112 and the Highland Park Human Relations Commission, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Highland Park Recreation Center.

Guests will partner with other members of the community by participating in fun, meaningful projects that include assembling toiletry baggies for local shelters; writing letters and making Valentines for soldiers and their children; creating squares for Project Linus and decorating flowerpots for hospital patients and others.

The Edgewood Middle School Chorus will sing freedom songs at 10 a.m. First Amendment freedoms are on display onboard the McCormick Foundation’s Freedom Express, a 45-foot-long traveling museum. The North Shore Health Clinic will distribute information about their services and offer blood sugar screenings.

Toiletries are needed to create baggies. Location: 1207 Park. Ave. W. For more information, call Cheryl Levi at 847-903-9523 or email [email protected]. To find more local MLK events, visit mlkday.gov.
