Chicago North and North Shore Natural Awakenings editor Martin Miron has won an honorable mention ribbon in the international short story competition, Scare The Dickens Out of Us, with his ghostly tale, Brethren.

Set in 1960s Atlanta amid the swirling controversy over civil rights, an African American judge must help his aged grandmother exorcise the lost souls trapped on a Southern plantation as slaves.

The contest, sponsored by the Friends of the Dr. Eugene Clark Library (ClarkLibraryFriends.com), in Lockhart, Texas, draws hundreds of entries annually to compete for a first prize award of $1,000.
