Martin Luther King Day of Service in Highland Park

Highland Park will celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with the 6th annual Day of Service and celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., January 19, at the Recreation Center of Highland Park. Multi-generational community events will honor King’s life, devoted to equality, social justice, economic advancement and opportunity for all, because he recognized the power of service to strengthen communities and achieve common goals.

The Honorable Jesse White will speak about his experiences while studying with King, Highland Park’s Mr. Lynn Epps will offer a tribute to the civil rights pioneer and the Highland Park Jazz Band will play patriotic songs with the Edgewood Middle School Chorus. The Jesse White Tumblers will also perform.

Activities will benefit veterans and active troops, local shelters and food banks, local and national youth, pets, the environment and seniors. Everyone is invited to attend.
