McHenry County College Hosts Bioneers Speaker Series

The Great Lakes Bioneers Speaker Series will be held at 7 p.m., February 7, 21 and 28, in the Luecht Conference Center at McHenry County College, in Crystal Lake. Experts at the event, sponsored by the college’s Sustainability Center, will share their views on local and global issues facing our planet that impact the community, present information about resiliency, citizen science and environmental justice and explain how individuals can help build a more sustainable world.

        The first lecture is Resiliency, Climate Change and Communities on the Edge, by Dale Sands, a Chicago-based global practice director for CH2M Hill. The second lecture is Engaging Citizens in Civic Ecology Practices, by Tania Schusler, Ph.D., with the Institute for Environmental Sustainability at Loyola University. The third lecture is Building the Social Justice Narrative on Our Environmental Crisis, by Shalini Gupta, executive director and co-founder of the Center for Earth, Energy and Democracy, in Minneapolis.

 

Each presentation is independent allowing participants to attend any or all evenings. Admission is free and pre-registration is not required. Location: 8900 U.S. Hwy. 14, Crystal Lake.
