See Green Home Innovations Firsthand

Illinois Green Alliance is hosting the 2018 GreenBuilt Home Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 28 and 29, featuring more than 15 sustainable homes in the Chicagoland area. To attend the event, a “passport” allows admission to all the homes.

Guests can learn about affordable and sustainable practices used in the green structures that they could potentially incorporate into their own homes. The builders and developers of these homes are committed to creating green buildings that are innovative and healthy.

The sixth annual GreenBuilt Home Tour features award-winning and green-certified homes such as the LEED for Homes certification, HERS Rating and DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes. Some of the homes have been built specifically to meet these qualifications, while others were modified to become sustainable.

Many of the homes generate their own energy using sunlight or alternative energy sources. There is much to learn about incorporating sustainable energy practices in ordinary homes by visiting each of the houses. From creating almost net-zero energy to growing all of their own food, each of the homes exhibits a green feature that everyone can learn from.

Passport cost is $20 at Eventbrite.com/e/greenbuilt-home-tour-2018-tickets-42433183795 or GreenBuiltHomeTour.org/tickets, or $5 per house at the door.
