Take the Green Office Challenge

Round three of the annual Chicago Green Office Challenge has begun, and hundreds of businesses are using new, innovative online activities software that allows participants to earn points and compare their progress to those of other offices. The goal is to earn prizes throughout the year and mayoral recognition at the end of the Challenge while helping participants reduce their company’s carbon footprint.

“Chicago’s efforts in sustainability have created economic opportunity throughout our neighborhoods and dramatically improved the overall quality of life for residents,” says Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “The Green Office Challenge is a great example of the private sector working with government to reduce costs and create jobs, while protecting the environment.”

According to Jean Pogge, CEO of Delta Institute, a nonprofit organization managing the Challenge, the purpose of the program is to cut energy, water and material use by 10 percent. “The Challenge is so exciting because anyone can be part of it, whether you’re a one-person office or a Fortune 500 company,” says Pogge. “It is a highly visible way to share, challenge and celebrate green behavior while benefiting your bottom line.”

Businesses outside of Chicago proper are encouraged to participate, but only those in Chicago are eligible to win the Challenge.
