Going Green Really Does Matter

The ninth annual Going Green Matters Community Environmental Fair will take place from noon to 5 p.m., March 8, at the Michigan Shores Club of Wilmette. Electronics, bicycles, shoes, textiles and Styrofoam will be recycled from noon to 4 p.m. at Central Elementary School. The event venue has changed due to the recent fire at the Women’s Club of Wilmette, but the Fair will go on as planned.

This fun, all-ages fair will help everyone looking for simple ways to live more sustainably and make great choices for their home, garden, recreation and transportation needs. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill will present their thought-provoking display, Great Cities, Great Lakes, Great Basin, inspired by the centennial of Daniel Burnham’s Plan of Chicago.

In addition to enjoying the green cars, cooking demonstrations and nature exhibits, participants can get answers to questions about home energy savings, organic gardening, rain barrels, local green initiatives, the latest green products and more. Visitors can produce electricity on the energy bike, buy plants for pollinators and relax in the Go Green Café.
