Learn About Ayurveda Headache Remedies

Dr. Trupti Gokani

Dr. Trupti Gokani, a board-certified neurologist, founder and director of the North Shore Headache Clinic, in Highland Park, and Dr. Paul Morehead, associate chair of the department of physiology at Maharishi University of Management, in Fairfield, Iowa, will present a workshop on the Maharishi Ayurveda Approach to Headache and Mood Imbalances, at 7 p.m., November 1, at the Evanston Transcendental Meditation Center, in Evanston.

In the practice of Ayurveda, there are three main types of imbalances that may lead to headache: Vata, corresponding to tension headache; Pitta-Vata, corresponding to migraine headache; and Kapha-Vata, corresponding to sinus headache. Guests will gain a better understanding of their body type and learn Ayurveda and other preventive methods of self-care to remove the underlying imbalances that cause headaches.

Gokani has evolved her traditional headache practice into an integrative model encouraging chronic pain patients to utilize non-pharmacological approaches for treatment of conditions ranging from headaches and neck pain to insomnia and mood disorders.

Morehead, chair of the Evanston Transcendental Meditation Center, has taught and developed curriculum in Maharishi Ayurveda for 25 years. He is a Maharishi Ayurveda wellness consultant and a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation program for 39 years.
