Globalfest Asia Gala Benefits Chicago Fair Trade

Globalfest Asia, the annual benefit of Chicago Fair Trade, will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m., October 18, at DIRTT Environmental Solutions, in Chicago, to highlight the growing consumer support for products that guarantee social benefits to workers and help save the environment.

Guests will hear stories of fair trade producers from India, Pakistan, Cambodia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and the Philippines and the products they supply to us every day. The program will be emceed by Anupy Singla, an award-winning journalist and author of The Indian Slow Cooker and Vegan Indian Cooker.

The annual Changemaker award, recognizing a person or group that has advanced fair trade, will be presented to Café Chicago, for expanding awareness of fair trade in the metro area through its roasting and distribution of fair trade, organic coffee and for increasing understanding of workplace democracy through its cooperative model. The gala also includes a silent auction, appetizers and fair trade wine.
