 S urfrider Chicago and paddle partner Kayak Chicago hosted a great turnout for the Pipe Out Paddle Protest – Chicago on September 1 at Montrose Beach, in Chicago, to raise awareness and foster activism in support of protecting our Great Lakes waters and shutting down Enbridge Line 5, an aging oil pipeline that runs under the Straits of Mackinac. Dan Sloboda, of Patagonia, outlined the Line 5 campaign basics and an action plan going forward.

      The grassroots nonprofit Surfrider Foundation USA, represented by more than 50,000 international members, with approximately 80 local chapters in the U.S., is taking volunteers and accepting donations. Another event is planned for October 7.
