Focus on Water at Evanston Green Living Festival

The 2012 Evanston Green Living Festival with the theme, Water: Preserving and Protecting It, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., September 29, at the Evanston Ecology Center. Visitors to this free annual celebration will enjoy a wide spectrum of green exhibitors, fun activities for adults and children, a silent auction and a healthful selection of food and drinks.

The 4,000-square-foot Green Market features exhibits from more than 80 participating businesses and organizations. The NU Tiny House, a 128-square-foot totally sustainable house built by students from Northwestern University, will be at the festival and open for tours.

Alternative energy displays include the latest in sustainable energy options, including a residential wind turbine, solar panels and other green energy demonstrations. Alternative transportation demos embrace hybrids, all-electric cars and other forms of transportation that can be used to reduce a user’s carbon footprint.

Other activities include a green silent auction entertainment for kids and parents, free bicycle rickshaw rides, secure bike parking and delicious food and refreshments provided by the Hummingbird Kitchen.
