Evanston Streets Alive Features Green Living Fest

The annual Streets Alive event, organized by Citizens’ Greener Evanston, the Evanston Environmental Association and the city of Evanston, will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., September 8. Residents of Evanston and surrounding communities will walk, bike, play and celebrate green living in a car-free mile of Main Street in Evanston. Streets Alive features free activities for all ages, including exercise classes, bike activities and bike valet, city of Evanston’s Touch-a-Truck, music, interactive art, giant Jenga, Bollywood dance and more. Local restaurants and food vendors will provide their tastiest offerings.

Streets Alive will once again be host to the Evanston Green Living Festival, an annual environmental fest featuring products, services and ideas that encourage attendees to lead more sustainable lives. Streets Alive is part of the national “livability cities” movement, sparked by Jane Jacobs’ book The Death and Life of Great American Cities, to create healthy urban citizens and sustainable environments. In this vision, streets aren’t just for traveling, but also for lingering, shopping, meeting friends or strolling.
