Journal to the Self Online Workshop

Quick, goal-oriented writing techniques for mindfulness, goals, emotional healing and more!

Six-weeks, self-paced. A new lesson opens every Thursday. Discussion and learning guided by a trained facilitator. All writing in the privacy of your own laptop or journal.

Journal writing empowers each writer to become their own self-coach. It delivers benefits such as achieving goals, emotional healing, mindfulness and stress reduction. With the COVID-19 outbreak, journaling has also been recommended as a coping tool from experts such as Astronaut Scott Kelly and the Mayo Clinic.

Reflection writing is a simple two-minute add-on to any journal write which creates a self-empowerment experience. The simple act of taking a deep breath, re-reading your own writing, and then pausing to be present with it is a powerful moment of self-growth. Then, it’s time to pick up on the pen again and jot yourself your own reflection about the write, including the experience of writing it. A journal write is the content of what is happening for you in this moment. A reflection write directs you what to do with it. For example, did you notice it was a sad topic, yet you felt a bit of relief? Did you connect dots you had not previously seen? Did you observe some energy in the pace of your writing, the style of your handwriting? Did the experience hit you in a surprising place in your body?

If you are interested in trying journal – and reflection -- writing but find yourself stuck, it’s likely connected to two common obstacles. The two biggest obstacles to becoming a consistent journal writer are spending too much time writing (yes, you read that right!), and losing motivation after a few tired entries beginning, ‘Dear Diary, today I…’.

The Journal to the Self TM workshop busts through those impediments and promotes self-empowerment with a fresh and fun collection of 18 beloved writing techniques. Each one is designed to distract the grammar-correcting side of the brain and tap greater creativity and insights from within, in a shorter amount of time. Since 1991 over 100,000 Journal to the Self students worldwide have become empowered to be their own coach through their journal writing. The online classroom feels like a digital magazine, with a private discussion lounge. Prepare to surprise yourself with the oohs and ah-has you get from your own writing!
