$40 for Cleaning Out Your Closet & Giving Back?

Mar 18, 2014 ● By Megy Karydes

The snow is slowly melting and many of us are thinking about spring cleaning and our wardrobe. We don’t need to rush out and buy new pieces. There are a ton of ways we can “shop” without spending any cash. I cover several ways to update your wardrobe and get the items you need for your home in the upcoming April issue of Natural Awakenings.

If you’ve been eyeing something new, though, here’s another way to secure some free cash while recycling your clothes and giving back. Nordstrom has partnered with Fashion Project to reward you for getting rid of clothing you no longer want.

How does it work? When participants donate five qualifying items (meaning $50 in original retail price; in nearly new condition; and one of brands listed HERE) to Fashion Project, not only will proceeds from the re-sale of the items benefit a registered 501(c)3 charity of the participant’s choice, but you’ll also receive a $40 Nordstrom Gift Card. Fashion Project will even send you the shipping materials, so it’s about as hassle-free as it gets (read: no waiting in line at your local consignment store with everyone else who decided to stop in on a Saturday). Plus you get the bonus of knowing that your donation will benefit a cause of your choice.

So dust off that Calvin Klein suit or those Enzo Angiolini pumps, donate them and treat yourself. And don’t forget to grab the April issue for some great ways you can refresh your wardrobe without spending a dime.
