Safe Cycling in Chicago - Dos and Don'ts of Cycling

Aug 15, 2014 ● By Megy Karydes

Wonder what the rules of the road are in Chicago? Is wearing a helmet while riding a bike in Chicago a requirement? Can you lock your bike anywhere or only in designated areas?

The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) just released its 2014 Safe Cycling Guide which answers these questions and more, including what do in case you’re in an accident with your bicycle.

At 32 pages, it’s a lengthy guide but it’s well organized so you can go straight to the information you’re seeking.

OK, one more question ~ is a front and rear reflector required when riding your bicycle at night in Chicago or the state of Illinois? The answer is on Page 25 of the 2014 Chicago Safe Cycling Guide.
