The USDA Forest Service’s Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie is one of just 50 National Public Lands Day virtual sites to be highlighted by the National Environmental Education Foundation. This year’s theme is "More Ways to Connect to Nature." The public can learn photo techniques and share fall colors photos and stories from Midewin NTP during a virtual session from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., September 26. Ron Kapala will share some of his favorite photographs taken over the years at Midewin and talk about nature photography techniques he uses to capture fall colors.

The class will begin with participants in the Midewin NTP Photo Naturalist program sharing stories and photos captured during the month of September. Photo Naturalists contribute photos and information to a growing Midewin NTP database on the iNaturalist smartphone application.

To register to participate as a Photo Naturalist and/or for the virtual smartphone photo basics session on National Public Lands Day, call 815-423-6370 or email [email protected]. Individuals do not need to participate as a photo naturalist to participate in the virtual photo basics class session.
