Water Quality Monitors Serve Important Role

Stoneflies and other macroinvertebrates are a sure sign of water quality at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. Year over year, monitors are noticing increases in stoneflies, damselflies, dragonflies, mayflies and more. Volunteers and staff members work in tandem with the Illinois RiverWatch Network to collect water samples.

Free Virtual Conservation Programs This Summer for Kids at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie

The Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, located just southwest of Chicago, is highlighted in a new national social media series focusing on not-to-be-missed national forests and grasslands. Midewin is best known for its bison herd. TV host and producer of "Travels with Darley", Darley Newman, hosts the series.
