Passion for Chiropractic Care Goes Beyond the Expected

Dec 31, 2010 ● By Peggy Malecki

Chiropractor Dr. Jordan Leasure uses one word to describe herself: passionate.

“My motivation is in being different, in giving people what is not readily available,” says Leasure. “Overall, I’m always working to find a better solution, better alternatives and better technologies for diagnosis and treatment.”

Leasure owns North Shore Pro-Active Health, a wellness clinic in downtown Libertyville. Along with her sister, Dr. Jade Leasure, and a staff of professionals, she offers chiropractic care that includes corrective exercise, massage therapy, lifestyle advice, nutritional counseling, spinal and postural screening, physiotherapy and physician-monitored weight loss. In 2010 she became a licensed practitioner of the Eat Well - Move Well - Think Well® Innate Lifestyle Program™.

Growing up in Libertyville, Leasure always had an interest in medicine. In high school, she was treated by a chiropractor after a car accident and became interested in the field, realizing it addressed the cause of injuries and illness, rather than treating the symptoms only. Then in college, she severely twisted her ankle and sought a chiropractor to help with rehabilitation. This experience reinforced her interest in the profession. After transferring from a pre-med program, Leasure graduated from Lake Forest College, majoring in chemistry and business. She attended the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, and in 2006 became a licensed chiropractor in Illinois. In 2010, she received her Certified Chiropractic Wellness Practitioner certificate.

Leasure describes her style as focused on finding the cause of pain and treating it to avoid repetitive injury, rather than what she calls “bone cracking.”

“Everyone is known here by name and treated as an individual,” Leasure says. “This is key to successful treatment, as many medical practices have a sterile, hands-off approach. Our feedback has been that people recognize we are patient-centered.” After a thorough initial exam, Leasure diagnoses the condition and determines the most beneficial treatment of the cause of pain and injury. The patient is taught exercises to continue at home between treatments, and is given specially-designed online tools to view videos of how specific exercises are to be performed.

In her passion to offer the best client care available, Leasure invests in state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment technologies, including clinic equipment, patient software and ongoing training.

“Technology is a differentiator for us,” Leasure says proudly. “We offer digital x-rays, as well as digital range-of-motion and muscle testing so that we can show patients actual progress and results of their treatment.” Leasure adds that she is “focused on keeping the entire staff up to date” and trains everyone quarterly in chiropractic techniques, laser therapy, customer service and current industry trends.

Leasure extends her energy and passion for wellness into the local community, where she offers educational classes and presentations at local schools and women’s and church groups. She envisions expanding North Shore Pro-Active Health to include complimentary practices including Reiki and acupuncture, and adding additional practitioners and treatment rooms.

To help ensure success, Leasure believes it is important to know if people are open to participating in treating their conditions and making lifestyle changes, so she conducts a complimentary consultation to make sure her services are a good match to the patient’s expectations. “We need to be sure the person is actually interested in getting well,” she says, explaining that many people with long-term conditions are burned out and frustrated with the current state of their health or their provider. She knows that some people feel that there is no answer for them, and that their suffering will be lifelong. “There is always an answer and a solution,” she continues. “There is not one identifiable disease that has not been cured. You need a never-give-up attitude. It’s about finding a practitioner you are comfortable with and that you can connect with. A patient should not feel stressed when they are seeing a caregiver .”

Leasure often hears people say they wish they had known sooner about such treatments. “Getting rid of aches and pains is expected,” she says. “Seeing more visceral changes [after treatment] and improving people’s health—these are the exciting things to me.”
