Heeere’s Johnny!

The legendary Johnny Appleseed will appear at the Green Metropolis Fair at 12:30 p.m., April 14. John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, was a freethinking and kind apple orchard cultivator and humanitarian. In his travels to and from his orchards in Ohio and Indiana, he visited and aided settlers, distributing the works of 18th-century Swedish theologian Emanuel Swedenborg, who wrote that a good life is a useful life; a view that resonated with Chapman.

Appleseed’s storytelling (as interpreted by actor Hank Fincken) is sponsored by the Swedenborg Library Chicago. The library hosts programs for the public on spirituality and science, and is the Chicago satellite for Common Ground Deerfield. The Green Metropolis Fair will be held at the Green Exchange, in Chicago, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., April 14.

Location: 2545 W. Diversity. For information about programs, call 312-346-7003 or visit For information about the fair, visit
