2012 Practitioner Profiles
Dr. Josie Tenore, M.D.
“My vision has always been to help people feel good—on the inside and out. Thatʼs why I began my practice as a family physician and then decided to specialize in aesthetics.”
Josie L. Tenore, M.D., M.Sc., is a board-certified family physician who became interested in aesthetics during medical school. As a result, most of her electives focused on dermatology and plastic surgery. Dr. Josie began her practice with family medicine because she enjoyed the challenge of delivering comprehensive health and wellbeing to people of all ages. This unique combination of family medicine and aesthetics led her to advocate a program of eating well, exercising and aesthetics for patients who want to have the best quality of life.
Dr. Josie specializes in helping men and women feel great about themselves with a combination of services that include fat loss treatments, bioidentical hormone therapies, body and face sculpting, and treatments to improve skin quality and health.
Dr. Josie completed her medical training at the University of Toronto, in Canada, in 1984. Her belief in continuing education to expand her knowledge and skills led Dr. Josie to receive training in varicose vein treatments in 1986 and chemical peels and skin care in 1988. Then she earned a Master of Science degree in public health from Harvard University in 1998. This allowed her to work with world-renowned specialists and offer state-of-the-art medical care to her patients.
She also has a passion for educating others. Dr. Josie has taught at several medical schools: her alma mater, the University of Toronto; Brown University, in Providence, Rhode Island; and Northwestern University, in Chicago. In addition, she has authored many scientific articles in well-recognized medical journals.
Dr. Josie is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.

Reneé Barasch, Certified Digestive Health Specialist
"Let’s get you feeling better."
Poor digestion drives an array of health problems. Some are obvious, others more subtle. For those who have tried traditional and holistic therapies with limited results, I have become the last stop.
As I compassionately greet clients weary from pain and suffering, I also offer a listening ear to ensure that I understand what they’ve experienced and endured. I use their information to paint a picture of how digestion works, and I show how a disruption in any of the key components of total nutrition (ingestion, digestion, absorption, elimination) impact the body’s ability to function optimally.
During the course of our conversation, there are two points I always stress.
1. When it comes to digestion and nutrition, there is no “one size fits all.” Digestion does not occur automatically, and correction of a problem requires more than just matching the right nutritional supplement to the symptom.
2. Without adequate digestion, optimal health is impossible.
To begin to create relief we review dietary preferences and family history. We complete the Signs and Symptoms Assessment. I conduct a physical examination of digestive points (stomach, liver, pancreas, gallbladder) and recommend a 24-hour urinalysis to uncover hidden digestive imbalances. With this information I develop a personalized plan that provides the nutritional support that’s been missing.
It is music to my ears when a client says “this just makes sense.” In that moment, I know that I’ve succeeded in demonstrating the science that is at the heart of my practice. Our bodies are flowing systems, extremely capable of self-regulating and self-healing—once the owner knows what tools and approaches work best.
If you are experiencing chronic pain, heartburn, gas/bloating, constipation, diarrhea, headaches, food cravings, fatigue, inability to feel satisfied after eating, or poor sleep, please contact me. We can identify causes and create relief.

Cheryl Perlis, M.D.
"Where Wellness and Beauty Come Together"
Dr. Cheryl Perlis is a board-certified gynecologist who has been actively practicing medicine for more than 20 years and is one of the leaders in bioidentical hormone therapy, wellness and disease prevention. After years of seeing patients endure the symptoms of fatigue, hot flashes, weight gain, hair loss, lack of sex drive, foggy thinking, poor concentration, irritability, poor sleep and an overall feeling of hopelessness, Dr. Perlis realized that all of these were symptoms of hormone imbalances. Dr. Perlis’ approach to patient care is to listen, understand her patient’s needs and expectations and together with her patient, provide them with the educational knowledge and understanding of how to change their lives and feel better. She is a firm believer in preventing disease by looking at all avenues of wellness; diet, exercise, sleep, nutritional supplements, stress management and hormone therapy.
Perlis Wellness Center provides an array of health and beauty services to support her patients in achieving their optimal health and beauty goals. Living Well Medical
Lynn Belsky, M.D.
"A Modern Internist with a Caring, Old-Fashioned Approach"
Have you ever spent more time in the waiting room than you did seeing your doctor?
“The current medical model allows a 15-minute visit with a patient, which just isn’t enough time,” says Dr. Lynne C. Belsky. So she turned back the clock in her practice and spends a minimum of 30 minutes with her patients.
Dr. Belsky can do this because she is a “concierge personal physician.” That means her patients have a paid membership in her practice. This gives them four important benefits.
First, she is available to you 24/7 via cell phone. Second, if something comes up, you get into her office that same or next business day. Third, you receive an annual exam that includes extensive blood work, an EKG, fitness testing, a lifestyle assessment and consultation. And fourth, if you must go to the hospital (at Evanston, Glenbrook or Highland Park) she will see you there—rather than making you rely on a doctor assigned by the hospital. “I know my patients’ histories,” she explains, “so I make sure they get the right care when they can feel the most vulnerable.”
While her approach may be “old fashioned,” Dr. Belsky uses the latest high-tech diagnostics and online medical records. She also integrates traditional Western medicine with nutrition and exercise, and welcomes those who complement her care with non-traditional therapies. In addition, Dr. Belsky accepts Medicare.
“My job is to look after the wellness not just of my patients’ bodies, but also their minds and spirits,” she explains. “I teach them about the disease process, how a vitamin or mineral works in the body, and how a person heals from an injury or disease. I consider their health a two-way partnership between us. And I’m willing to spend the time to make this happen.”
