Crowdfunding to Grow Young Farmers
FamilyFarmed has launched a new campaign to raise much-needed funds to benefit the next generation of small farmers in the U.S. The mission of the campaign Help Us Grow Young Farmers! on the IndieGoGo crowdfunding site bit.ly/GrowYF is to raise $60,000 in tax-deductible contributions by December 6 to develop a Direct Market Success manual and training program to increase the number and proficiency of our young farmers.
Donors can choose from an exciting list of perks offered by FamilyFarmed. They include donations from award-winning Farm to Table chefs, as well as from Chipotle Mexican Grill, Whole Foods Market and Farmhouse Chicago.
More young farmers are needed because the average age of farmers in this country is approaching 60 and many are nearing retirement. Meanwhile, the numbers of farmers’ markets nationwide have quadrupled over the past 20 years.
The manual will be integral in instructing new farmers in workshops across the nation. Nonprofit FamilyFarmed’s Wholesale Success program has already trained more than 7,000 farmers to sell into wholesale markets.
