Annual Chicago Flower Show to Focus on Garden Stories

At the 2018 Chicago Flower & Garden Show, scheduled from March 14 through 18, guests will enjoy 30 stunning gardens and floral displays and visitors can roll up their sleeves to participate in more than 100 activities, seminars, classes, demonstrations and events within the show. The show opens a new chapter in its long legacy with a redesign of the show’s traditional nine-day run to five days.

With roots that date back to 1847 as the Chicago Fruit and Flower Show, the theme next year is FlowerTales: Every Garden Has a Story to Tell. A new sponsor is nonprofit Bernie’s Book Bank, with a mission to increase book ownership among at-risk children. Also new, Flower Show Productions, the parent company of the Chicago Flower & Garden Show, is launching its Get Growing Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose purpose is cultivating and growing a love of learning about gardening and horticulture.

From balconies, patios and small-space designs to creative vegetable and herb gardens, water features and perennial beds, the show presents spontaneous and cultured styles of landscape architecture while offering practical solutions for everyday sustainability.

Director Tony Abruscato says, “We are trying to make the 2018 Chicago Flower & Garden Show like no other, with flowers, food and fashion.” Evening in Bloom will kick off the event with a Hort Couture floral fashion show from 6 to 9:30 p.m., March 13, inside Navy Pier’s Festival Hall.

Tickets range from $5 to $15 for the Chicago Flower & Garden Show. Tickets to the Evening in Bloom charity preview are $175. For more information, visit ChicagoFlower.com.
