Celebrate Earth Day 2022 at Chicago Area Events

Internet activities to celebrate
Earth Day abound this month. Here are a few:
It’s time for the 2022 Earth
Week Mini Fest from April 18 to 24, co-hosted by One Earth Collective and the city
of Chicago. Earth Day, which predates the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
and many environmental laws, has been mobilizing people around the world for
the last 52 years. Show our Earth some love and watch seven top films, engage
in conversation, and learn about actions that tackle climate change and
environmental injustice. Virtual and in-person events. All are free, with
suggested $8 donation. Registration highly recommended: oneearthfilmfest.org/earth-day
Connect in community the day
after Earth Day, Saturday, April 23. Reach out, give back and make new friends.
Reveal the beauty of our city after a long winter.
Neighborhood
Cleanup, 10 am to noon, at two locations: Columbus Park (500 S Central Ave) Field House & Pavilion cleanup; and
BUILD (5100 W Harrison St) chicken coop cleanup and garden bed
building. Free Light Lunch, Noon to 1
p.m. Both crews will enjoy a short gathering and delicious
local food at Columbus Park Pavilion. Light lunch will accommodate
vegans/vegetarians. Sponsored by BUILD, Flybird Experience, One Earth
Collective, the Field Museum, Friends of the Park and other partners. Registration required
The One Earth Young Filmmakers Contest will
continue the celebration of award-winning student films via a virtual event to
kick off Earth Week Mini Film Fest in April. See eight short, student films
from among 13 honorable mention/notable winners on Monday, April 18, at 5 p.m.
CDT. Topics range from conserving the last frontier of Alaska, to reducing
ocean waste, to disconnecting from electronics and re-connecting with nature.
Contest Founding Director Sue Crothers will facilitate a short Q&A with
each filmmaker after their films screen. “There are some very thought-provoking
films that should lead to interesting discussions,” said Sue. “Students will
Zoom in from the Midwest, East Coast, Scotland and even Turkey.”
Equiticity will host a Community Mobility
Rituals Webinar Series, made up of five webinars on consecutive Fridays in
April at 12 p.m. CDT. Community Mobility Rituals (CMRs) include community
bicycle rides and neighborhood walking tours. The webinar series will share
with the world what are Community Mobility Rituals; how they are planned and
executed; the impact they are having on people, neighborhoods, cities, and
community partners; and the research which supports intended and achieved
impacts. Register here
