Begin a Wellness Journey From the Inside Out

A wellness journey begins long before adulthood—at the moment of conception, when genetic information from both parents joins forces to create a person. Generations of information carried in the DNA very quickly differentiate into three tubes, giving rise to all organs and structures, including the brain and spinal cord.

This early stage is especially significant because subtle variations during neural tube formation can influence later health. These variations may contribute to concerns such as tongue ties, spinal cord anomalies and changes in how cerebrospinal fluid nourishes the brain and nervous system. While often unnoticed at birth, these influences can shape long-term function.

Genes carry millennia of information, contributing to individuality as well as inherited traits such as eye color, health tendencies and predispositions. Family health history often offers clues about future wellness, but modern genetic testing now allows for a more precise, functional look at how genes express themselves. Certain tests can evaluate areas such as inflammation patterns, hormone pathways and more.

This information can help identify how the body may be inclined to dysfunction, allowing for earlier, more informed wellness decisions. Understanding genetic tendencies offers an opportunity to take proactive steps rather than waiting for symptoms to appear.

Structural factors may also play a role. Tongue, lip or buccal (cheek) ties that develop early can create subtle tension patterns affecting the head, neck, jaw and even the spinal cord. Over time, these restrictions may influence vagus nerve function, spinal fluid flow and the balance of the musculoskeletal and organ systems. While the effects often take years to surface, they can accumulate gradually.

Early evaluation by specifically trained dentists, chiropractors and bodyworkers can help identify and address these patterns. All babies should be evaluated for ties, which can be corrected with a laser when clinically indicated. In adults, treatment often involves myofunctional therapy, breathwork and body-based care to help release long-standing tension and restore function.

With growing insight into genetics and early structural influences, individuals now have more tools than ever to support long-term health, awareness and well-being.
